Montmorency County VINELink Inmate Check

MI-VINE is the tool to try after a Montmorency County arrest. It is free. It stays confidential. You can search online or by phone, day or night, for custody details on one person. You can also sign up for alerts about a release, transfer, or escape. The service draws on participating county jails and Michigan corrections data. It will not find anyone in federal prison. Montmorency inmates are housed in Alpena. The state materials never say that arrangement is part of the feed. So a search that comes up empty deserves a follow-up call to MI-VINE and the holding facility.

How to Check a Montmorency Arrest

The public VINELink state-selection screen drops you into the right service for your state. Match identity details from the arresting agency, the current roster, or a court record. Skip the social-media posts and unofficial directories.

VINELink state selection interface used to choose Michigan

Choosing Michigan matters here, since DHS-VINE covers immigration custody and says nothing about local MI-VINE participation.

  1. Open VINELink and select Michigan. You may also call MI-VINE at 800-770-7657. TTY service is available at 1-866-847-1298.
  2. Search by the person’s name. The official Michigan brochure also supports an offender or booking number. A criminal case tracking number, called a CTN, may be used for court information when available.
  3. Review every possible match carefully. Compare the spelling of the name, any identifier, facility, custody status, and case context shown. Similar names are common, and an approximate match is not enough to identify someone.
  4. Open the matching record and read the current status. If the interface offers notification registration for that record, use it only after confirming the identity.
  5. If no record appears, try a reasonable spelling variation or a known identifier. Then call MI-VINE and Alpena County Correctional Facility rather than concluding that the person was not arrested.

Need the arrest entry itself? For the charge wording, a court date, or a booking photograph, turn to the official routes in the Montmorency County recent-arrests guide. VINELink answers a narrower question. It tells you whether a matching person shows up in the participating custody or court-status stream. It won't hand you the arrest report, the JailTracker entry, or the court file.

Fresh bookings take time to appear. The arresting agency starts the paperwork, then the holding facility processes and enters the data. Montmorency's transfer to Alpena adds one more step. No local source publishes an update schedule. So nobody can honestly promise a name will surface within minutes.

What VINELink May Show

The fields you see depend on the agency and the record it feeds to the service. Michigan materials back searching and alerts but promise no specific fields for a Montmorency-related record. Trust only what the live result shows.

Field or eventHow to interpret it
Name and identifying detailsUse these to distinguish people with similar names. Confirm against an official agency or court source.
Offender or booking numberAn identifier can improve search accuracy. Do not confuse a local booking number with an MDOC offender number.
Custody statusThis reflects the status transmitted by the participating data source. It is not a finding of guilt or a final court disposition.
FacilityFor a Montmorency arrestee, the expected local housing location may be Alpena County Correctional Facility, but transfers and other placements are possible.
ReleaseA release notice means the reported custody changed. It does not mean the charge was dismissed or the case ended.
TransferA transfer notice indicates movement to another custody location. Search the system appropriate to the new custody state.
Escape notificationTreat immediate safety concerns as emergencies and call 911. VINE is not an emergency-response system.
Court or CTN informationWhere offered, this may help follow a case. MiCOURT or the Montmorency court clerk remains the source for the official court record.

The 88th District Court is where the case record lives after a Montmorency arrest. If a felony moves forward, the 26th Circuit Court takes over. Check those dockets for what actually happened.

Register for Michigan Custody Alerts

The main VINELink website is the online entry point for offender searches and notification sign-up. Make sure you attach the registration to the right person's record. Confirm the identity first, then pick a contact method.

The screens may shift over time, though the Michigan brochure confirms registration by phone, text, or email.

  1. Find and open the correct person’s record after selecting Michigan.
  2. Choose the available notification or registration option associated with that record.
  3. Select phone, text, or email as the delivery method. Registering by telephone is also available through 800-770-7657.
  4. Enter the requested contact information accurately. A mistyped number or address can prevent a notice from arriving.
  5. Create a four-digit personal identification number. Choose a PIN you can remember but that another person is unlikely to guess.
  6. Complete the confirmation steps shown by the service. For telephone notifications, enter the four-digit PIN when the automated call arrives to confirm receipt.
  7. Keep the registration information available in case you need to update or stop notifications later.

Automated calls can keep going for up to 72 hours, the Michigan brochure explains. The loop ends only when you enter your PIN. That loop exists to force a confirmation. Still, a notice can slip past you. Carrier filtering, an outage, a wrong contact detail, or slow source data can all cause a miss. Treat registration as one warning channel. It should never be a whole safety plan.

MI-VINE sends notifications for release, transfer, and escape. A person can also move from county custody into Michigan Department of Corrections supervision. At that point MDOC's OTIS becomes the right public status system. It covers qualifying prisoners, parolees, and probationers. OTIS won't show a newly booked county detainee or every county-jail sentence.

Limits and Direct Confirmation

VINELink is one link in a longer verification chain. The Alpena current-inmate roster shows present custody only. MI-VINE adds search and alerts when a record sits in the participating stream. Montmorency courts hold the later case history. No single source captures the full arrest, custody, and disposition timeline by itself.

Know the limits. MI-VINE covers state and local custody, not federal Bureau of Prisons cases. It also is not an emergency line. Data from the Montmorency County and Alpena County Correctional Facility stream can lag behind a fresh booking, a transfer, or a release. No public source promises the feed is complete for every Montmorency inmate. For a firm answer on local custody right now, call Alpena corrections. The number is 989-354-9830. If anyone faces immediate danger, dial 911 instead of any locator.

For same-day arrest checks, pair VINELink with the Daily Arrest Report guide. The official Alpena JailTracker roster completes the set. Montmorency itself runs no separate named 24-hour arrest feed. Keep the roster's quirks in mind. It can list people booked days ago who are still held in jail. Yet it may miss someone who bonded out, moved to another facility, or sat in a different agency's custody. Intake delays add another gap.

Federal and immigration custody live in separate systems entirely. A federal prison inmate appears in the Bureau of Prisons locator, not MI-VINE. Immigration detention works the same way. Check the ICE Online Detainee Locator, and use DHS-VINE only for its own immigration notifications. A DHS-VINE result proves nothing about Alpena's participation in MI-VINE.

Montmorency County lists no sheriff booking app, no mobile roster, and no SAVIN-branded alert service. A 2020 report noted that Alpena's upgraded inmate system replaced Mobile Patrol. That history does not mean the old app still runs. The dependable order is simple. Start with the web roster. Then try MI-VINE, a phone call to the facility, and the court record. A targeted public-record request comes last if needed.

When a Montmorency Search Is Blank

A blank VINELink result can mean several things. The person may not be in a participating data stream at all. Intake may still be in progress. The name could be spelled differently in the system. The person may already be released, or another agency may hold them. Montmorency-specific detail on the public state pages is too thin. A blank screen cannot settle the question.

Work through it in order. First, retry the spelling or a known booking and offender identifier. Next, call MI-VINE and Alpena corrections. Was the question about the arrest itself, not present custody? Contact the Montmorency County Sheriff's Office at 989-785-4238. For a later legal outcome, turn to MiCOURT and the clerk of the court involved. Each step keeps the roles straight. An arresting agency, a housing facility, an alert service, and a court are not the same thing. The booking record documents the custody event; the court record tells you what happened after.
